If you are an ardent follower of the British Royal family, or even if you just dabble once in awhile during the royal weddings, you would know that the Matriarch herself loves Corgies. In her group of royal dogs, if you look closely, you would find a Dorgi nestled in the palace enjoying in the lap of such luxury that we can only dream.
As you may have guessed, a Dori is a mix between Corgis and Dachshund. It is always better to adopt dogs, but if you are looking to buy them from a breeder, you need to take proper care. The breeder usually doesn’t care about the dogs, and they are kept in absolute filth. This leads to a lot of health issues. So, always insist on seeing their facilities and meeting your pup’s parents before you take any decision.
The best part of the Corgi Dachshund mix is that he is extremely loyal. You won’t find anyone more loyal than this one here. He loves to be around other people and animals, and you will always find him in a jovial mood. He is very energetic. He is also intelligent and curious as a cat. His curiosity can be funny as he would always be behind something, which could lead to a lot of laughs around your home.

Since the Dorgi puppies grow up to be small to medium sized dogs, their exercise requirement is not as extensive as others. Even if you have a moderately sedentary lifestyle, this dog would fit in with your lifestyle just fine. You don’t really need to own a huge home with a yard to bring him home, although if you do have it, it would be a bonus. You would need to walk him for fifteen minutes walks twice during the day, preferably during morning and evening.
As he is not lazy, it is faster to train him. Since he is brilliant, he will understand your commands quickly, but due to his stubborn nature, he just would not want to do it.

A Corgi Dachshund mix has minimal shedding. Although during certain seasons, you might find his hair all over yourself and your house. During this time, this can be controlled by brushing his coat daily. During all other times, you can clean him on alternate days. His skin is sensitive, so his bathing schedule should not be fixed. Anytime he stinks or looks extremely dirty, is the time to bath him. This would ensure that the natural oils of his skin remain intact and he does not suffer from dry, flaky skin. You can hire a professional to cut his nails once every few months. Other than that, you can maintain oral hygiene by brushing regularly and cleaning his ears with a clean cloth and lukewarm water, if you find more tar in the year, you can use few drops of apple cider vinegar to water.
What kind of a family is best for him?
If you have small kids or are planning to add children to your family in the next ten to fifteen years, you can rest assured that your dog would be great with them. If your dog is on the smaller side, in the initial few years of your kid’s life, you should always to be present as kids can be rough with dogs. Once you teach your child how to behave, things would be much sweeter.
On the whole, when you bring him home, you get yourself an alert watchdog and a loving family dog, all rolled into one. He is also quite possessive about his family. The only issue that you may have is that sometimes he is prone to barking a bit too much. He does tend to gain weight so ensure that you feed him a measured quantity of food at regular intervals. When you bring him home, you would indeed be bringing your dream dog who would match your lifestyle.
