To be honest, the mix of Pembroke Welsh Corgi and Australian Shepherd is formally known as a Corgi Aussie mix. These dogs are found to be usually clever and friendly with strong herding capabilities. They are average sized dogs and fairly low slung. However, their legs are longer, and their backs are shorter. They are very alert, hard-working, have great stamina, visibly extremely cute, brilliant, and good with kids, always happy with the job, willing to learn a lot of tricks and deal well with solitude. However, they can be very dominant, easily bored, and will be very disobedient when hungry!
Detail Breed Description
Corgi Aussie mix is a small dog which reaches 10 to 13 inches in height upon maturity and typically weighs between 20 and 30 pounds. As their parents’ herding backgrounds have been on isolated ranches and farms, these dogs are hard working, energetic and very playful. They love to accompany you anywhere you go. Auggie dog is usually great with kids, but you should teach your kids to be a little careful. You must train him and socialize at the early stages and make him exercise to teach good habits.
These dogs are found to have long hair and shed a lot. This means that you have to brush them daily and get their ears checked a few times in a week. It is an excellent practice to gently clean their ears weekly. Please note that you should get them bathed only when required to store all the natural oil on their coat. They come in different bi-color coats such as black and white, black and brown, white and brown, and gray with black and white.
Breed Variations
There are not many variations in the breed except for the mini Aussie Corgi mix. The F1 Mini Aussie Corgi is a result of crossing a Corgi with a Miniature Aussie. A purebred corgi dog is crossed with a F1 mini Aussie corgi to have an F18 corgi mini Aussie mix. Two F1 mini Aussie corgi dogs together will give puppies as F2 corgis. Likewise, the mini Australian Shepherd Corgi mix can be extremely small, and thus they require delicate exercise and very careful handling to prevent any injury.
Breed Temperament
Owing to their herding parents’ characteristics, these dogs know what they want, and they don’t like to be handled although they appreciate the attention. They seem to be barking at everything that moves around naturally because of their vocal herd control techniques as they are primarily herding dogs. These dogs can sometimes show extreme stubbornness, and even after undergoing proper training they become disobedient when they want food, attention or anything else. These dogs tend to learn simple tricks very quickly. Agility training and toys are best suited for them. These dogs do not love to get trained by anyone. Only the right person who responds to their temperament can befriend them very quickly.
Breed Health
The parents of Aussie Corgi mix dogs are healthy purebred dogs. Thus, it reduces many of the health concerns associated with them. They have a lifespan of 12 to 15 years. In general, the smaller your dog is, the more is the health concerns and chances of injury associated. Some of the diseases are hereditary and can be tested easily. The possible issues related to your Auggie dog include obesity, deafness, epilepsy, blindness, back problems, urinary stones, joint dysplasia, drug sensitivity, eye problems, degenerative myelopathy, von Willebrand’s disease, and PRA, i.e., Progressive Retinal Atrophy. It is imperative that you buy the dogs only after getting them checked by a vet and ensure that they do not carry any infectious disease that might spread on to your kids at home.
